Paula was rescued from a neglectful situation. Her former owner went abroad for work, and she was given to a friend who neglected her. We got a call for help and went to rescue Paula.
When we saw her, we were very shocked. Apparently, she hadn't had proper care for a long time. She was malnourished and dehydrated. She only weighed 22lb, and her coat was dirty, matted and smelly. We couldn’t imagine what she had been through. She must have been starved for months.
Paula is now on the road to recovery. She is now 46 lbs, but it will take a while for her to get back to a normal weight (~60 lbs). To avoid digestive problems, she needs to gain weight slowly, and is getting small amounts of food three times a day.
Paula is a sweet and affectionate girl. She is always calm and gentle. She loves people and dogs. She is also good with cats, ignoring them. She may need some training on leash and with housebreaking. Paula is a little sensitive to noise, such as thunder or firecrackers. She may show anxiety or try to find a place to hide when she hears the noise. We would like to find Paula a home where she can get the love and care she deserves. Paula is spayed, chipped and up to date on vaccinations.
